Special Inspections for New Construction in the Bronx

TR1 and TR8 on a new building
A new building can involve inspection categories such as concrete, structural steel, welding, soils/geotechnical work, support of excavation (SOE), underpinning, mechanical systems, sprinkler systems, fire-related systems, plumbing, and TR8 energy code inspections.
It is worth being clear about how the scope can be handled. The engineer of record specifies required inspections. An owner's representative or contractor may add inspections beyond that list, and Enthink keeps the engineer of record notified in writing if a required item appears to be missing. Excavation beside existing buildings
Bronx sites range from wide-open parcels to infill lots wedged between older apartment buildings, and the second kind puts existing structures directly at stake once digging starts. Adjacent-building protection is handled as a defined program rather than a series of one-off visits.
A pre-construction survey comes first, capturing the documented condition of the neighboring buildings through interior and exterior photographs. A monitoring plan then states the number and location of monitors along with the specific limits in force; where the engineer of record has not prepared one, Enthink does.
Measurement follows in three overlapping forms. Vibration monitoring tests readings against the thresholds in the plan, and any landmark building in the vicinity is held to a lower limit than its neighbors. Optical settlement monitoring relies on an instrument shooting prisms placed on the adjacent buildings, which turns elevation into a tracked number instead of a judgment call. Where the initial survey found cracks, crack monitoring is added at those locations. If a post-construction survey is requested at the end, we carry it out and the record closes with a matched before-and-after set.
